Jean Hayward in Germany, January 1908

As mentioned in the last post, Jean lived at Bamberger Straße (Street) 5 in Berlin. [The "ß" character in German is a double s.] Jean sent a postcard to her brother in January 1908 with a view of the street, and a small "5" inked in over house number five.

Dearest brother:-
Here comes another post card. By the time I start home you will have so many that mama will be burning them to get rid of them. This shows the street where I live and I have marked the house. Tell papa to hurry over. Love to every body and piles of love to yourself from
Sister Jean

Jean was 20 years old at this time, and John was 12. Less than a decade later John also traveled to Europe, but for a much different reason than his sister.
